Off Track: Gang of Idiots… bicycling, not baseball

  • Betty Wolfe · 5 months ago
I thought that this kind of anti-bicycler behavior wasn't a New England problem, but please please please don't even joke about carrying a gun. We really need to tone down the rhetoric and not give any encouragement to the idea that killing others solves a problem. With anti-President Obama radio talk-show hosts ranting, our national legislators voting to allow gun-toting in national forests, and the two recent murders committed by rabid "antis"--anti abortionist and anti Semite--it's just too dicey to make comments like that. Maybe Nashua should consider posting "Share the Road" signs at strategic locations--they've got some good graphics and we use them here in NJ especially on stretches where there's no shoulder.

It should not be illegal to ride a bicycle on a sidewalk. It is safer, and is idiotic that it is illegal.

I disagree about it being safer (except perhaps for slow-moving small children), but sidewalks are rare in this area anyway. Bicycles move at 15 to 25 mph; motorists need to learn to share, and get over themselves.

I agree with Andrew on the sidewalk issue. It is MUCH safer for serious bicyclists to be riding in the street. The problem lies with the motorists feeling they 'own' the road. I get a few catcalls virtually every time I ride as well, and I just can't fathom the ignorance of the people who do it. Thank goodness they are in the minority.
